The prospects for extending civilization beyond planet Earth.
There is increasing confidence among space technologists and business leaders that large-scale economic activity will be extending into space over the next few decades. A major driver for this appears to be Artificial Intelligence. Rising environmental costs for AI on Earth compared with falling costs to launch AI servers into space predict space will be cheaper in just 10-20 years. Also, SpaceX is planning a massive program of settling humans on Mars, which will create demand for in-space support. Quantum computing is also poised to create high demand for Helium, which can be obtained from mining the Moon. Lunar ice and asteroid materials will supply space based manufacturing and other in-space economic activities. Modeling shows that before the end of this century, the space economy could exceed the entire economy on Earth.

From Orbit to Ground: The Convergence of Multi-Scale Earth Observation.
Space-based earth observation provides scale, but the demand for precision is driving a convergence of data sources. We explore how drone imagery and the democratization of terrestrial data capture, via smartphones and accessible RTK tools, are closing the gap between orbit and the ground. We will discuss how the photogrammetric pipeline is being redefined by Machine Learning and neural rendering techniques, such as Gaussian Splatting. By transitioning from purely geometric reconstruction to semantic environmental understanding, we unlock new value for critical industries, including precision agriculture, infrastructure development, and next-generation surveying.

포럼 추진 배경
정책 · 환경 변화
- 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(RISE)는 지역이 주도하는 혁신을 바탕으로, 대학·지자체·산업계가 함께 협력해 의미 있는 성과를 만들어가는 체계입니다.
- 제주 역시 관광 중심 산업 구조를 넘어, AI·디지털 전환, 그리고 우주·공간정보 같은 신산업을 기반으로 더 높은 부가가치를 만드는 방향으로의 전환이 필요한 시점입니다.
추진 필요성
- 제주 RISE의 성과를 더 넓은 무대에서 공유하고, 국내외 파트너들과의 협력을 “실제로 연결”할 수 있는 자리가 필요했습니다.
- 이번 포럼은 교육 → 해커톤 → PoC → 사업화 → 채용/인턴 → 투자로 이어지는 흐름을 한 번에 경험할 수 있도록, 그 연결 모델을 행사 안에서 직접 실증해보려는 시도입니다.
- 지역 인재가 성장하는 과정과 산업 전환의 계기를 동시에 만들어가기 위해 마련했습니다.
